I approached the new job at Swanwick Construction with some trepidation as the owner of the family run business, Chris Collins, had a reputation for being a bit fiery with a short fuse! After a week of treading on eggshells somewhat, he didn't seem too bad at all and from then on we got on like a house on fire!
I was put to work on the company's Hymac 580D, working on a drainage job that was to cross the main Bursledon Road to the east of Southampton. It was one of the many interesting and challenging jobs that I was involved in with Swanwick's over the coming 10 years.
