Hydra Clamp Removal JCB 3CX '82 White Cab

Post #1 by MetalHog » Thu Jun 27, 2013 11:50 pm

Hello All,

I want to change a hydra clamp seal in a 82 3CX. I suspect the seal is leaking and dripping a small amount of fluid. I have the replacement seal, but I can't get the nut off the bolt that runs through the seal casing into the rail. I can turn the nut alright, but the bolt is turning at the same time.

I'va had a look at the schematic diagram and the other end of this bolt appears d or o shaped. I've had a look at it through the rail and it's turning as above when I apply spanner pressure :dizzy: to the bolt. I've tried jamming a screwdriver and various bit's of metal to try to get the d end to bite and not turn, but no look so far.

Is there a special tool for this ? or as anyone any advice ?

Cheers

You need a new nut and bolt, just cut the old nut off, make sure you have the kingpost the right side to be able to remove the bolt once you have cut the nut off

Hi Rod,

Firstly, thanks to Phil for the advice regarding the hydra clamp bolt. I cut it off on Tuesday and tapped the bolt shaft out through the rail. I got a secondhand bolt and better rail washer. I replaced the clamp seals, re-assembled and she's as good as new.

Rod,
In relation to the manual question, I don't have one. I got the schematic of the hydra clamp off a chap in a machinery spares store, I replaced the seals in the dipper ram on this machine last month and I asked the guy about the hydra clamps. I got a set of seals for all that may need them in the future. She's leak free since then, a bit of play in the slew and needing a paint job and glass tlc but all round in good condition.

Cheers
