How's the investigation gone/going - any updates or findings?

Re: Ph 2 problem
So far Iv managed to studiously ignore it, but it hasnt gone away
To be fair though its been wet, cold, and not an ideal time for ordering bits, so Iv left it in one piece for the moment.
Maybe tomorrow....

Re: Ph 2 problem
Finally got a warm enough day today to tackle the nuts holding the heads on - seized solid, but a bit of heat got them moving.
Findings - nothing too serious sadly.
Rear most piston is fine, as are rings. Valves look ok too.
Front piston rings ok, but piston body has damage between rings.
I just cant understand why it wouldnt fire and run on the good cyclinder?
I will order a new piston (any suggestions as to who will stock them at 0.060"?), and do all the valves and rings while Im in.
If that doesnt solve it I guess its injectors.
Cheers

Re: Ph 2 problem
There should be no damage at all on your pistons, don't forget the bores could also be glazed, if there is piston damage then that sounds like your problem or at least part of the problem.
I would get the cylinder bores measured to establish wear before ordering any replacement pistons, yes I would not mess about you may as well replace them both but as I say establish first if you need the cylinders bored out or not?
Any step you can feel with your finger is a good clue as to how badly the bores are worn, if you are lucky you may get away with them being honed and not bored.

Re: Ph 2 problem
New piston and rings are in, had injectors serviced and rebuilt, stripped down the pumps and reground valve and rained the tank and filled with fresh deisel... and it wouldnt start on the handle.
Jumped it off no bother though, so Im hoping now the rings are bedded in a little it may start on the handle.
To be fair, I think it had always been a poor starter - hence the previous owner using easy start. Probably a different problem all together which I intend to fix by fitting a starter motor.
