Would this be the correct heading to discuss the differences in how things are in different countries?
I have spent some time today and am very curious as to your work days, productivity, what you call different materials....etc.

Re: Differences?
In my place of work,I start at O600,If there is work waiting for me I start before my time at 0535. Then grab a break when I can get it around 0900.Just a cup of tea and a sandwich.I get a 30 min unpaid mealbreak.Try to get that around mid day.Finish work at 1800,but if on a call out I have finnished at 2200,thankfully not very often. The night shift is 1800 till 0600.Also work weekends.
When I worked for a hire firm my hours were 0815 till 1730 Mon to Friday,Sat morning 0800 till 1200.Had a 45 min break for lunch in the week if on depot, off depot anytime
Regards
Martyn

Re: Differences?
Boy I can see this will be fun. I am just getting in 6 PM. You guys are all asleep.
Most excavators in this area start at 7 AM. with 30 min. unpaid lunch. 8 hour day finishes at 4 PM.
Most have a 10 min break mid morning and mid afternoon. Here employees get time 1.5 time after 40 hours.
My guys get to the shop before 7 am. get their work assignment and tools, materials and are on the job working before 8 am.
we try to get 7.5 to 8 billable hours in a day. they then return to the shop and unload 5 to 5:30 pm they get 45 to 50 hours a week except in the winter. The last few years we have been on layoff most of Jan. Feb. and March. because of winter weather. Unemployment wages are 50% of average weekly pay.

Re: Differences?
I live in Holland and I work in shifts, My day shift start at 07.30 to 15.30. Unpaid lunch from 11.30\12.00 Sometimes when a colleague has a day of or it's very busy then I work to 19.30 with a half hour diner paid by the employer, usually at 17:30. Dayshifts are 6 days, monday to saterday
After the day shift we have the night shift, (5 nights) 23.30 to 07.00. Unpaid lunch from 03.30\04.00
No diner or whatsoever when I work an 12 hour shift 19.30\07.00.
Then we get the 'late mid-day'. (5 days). My personal favourite. shift from 15.30 to 23.30, Unpaid lunch from 19.30\20.00
When it is necessary we work at the weekend and that's quite a lot.
We have 43 days off on a year.

Re: Differences?
My question of the day is "Plant Hire" It seems it may mean a company that hires out equipment or a construction company in general?

Re: Differences?
Yes Nick,
Plant Hire in the UK is probably what you guys across the pond would call a Rental company.
