This is easy to work out for yourself.

The circumference of a circle can be calculated by πd, where d is the diameter of the pump flange.
You'll probably remember there are 360 degrees in a circle.
Working backwards, for 1mm per degree, the circumference must be 360mm.
360 / π = 115mm diameter (sounds about right)
If your flange is smaller than 115mm, it will be 'less' than 1mm/degree.

Having calculated that, I'll now suggest you hit it with degreaser and look for graduations stamped on the flange.


For the 4.236, the fuel pump rotates clockwise.
So, rotating the housing clockwise will bing the injection 'closer' to TDC

below are the fault finding suggestions from the 4.236 manual
The very first suggestion for black exhaust is the airfilter as suggested by essexpete!

have been trying to figure out as much for my own info as anything else, what should the timing be

Start point: 24degree before top dead centre and continue until 5 degree past or something like that ?
