Hydraulic Fluid

Post #1 by Explo » Sun Jan 24, 2016 1:59 am

My previous projects and restorations have all been modernish military (1950 - 1998) and no way can we use modern Dot 6 or 7 gearbox oil because of the detergents they put in it. Basically they clean the too well and take the oxide off any bronze bearings or parts causing them to just disintegrate. We can only use Dot 4 oil. Looking to top up my 1985ish JCB 802 hydraulic tank and have no idea about if this is also an issue here? Don't even know if hydraulic oil has a detergent in it? Any advice would be appreciated. Also any recommendations of grade?

Cheers, C.
