HYMAC Backhoe Loader: But what model??

Post #1 by IBH » Wed Apr 09, 2008 5:20 pm

The two photos below are of a Hymac backhoe loader I came across, I have no idea what the model number or age is, Do any CMN members have any idea?

The only thing is it looks similar to the Hanomag HD60 backhoe loader that IBH developed from Hymac designs (Not my own photos):

Mmmm :? Bit of a mystery that one IBH,

At first I was going to say Hymac 370 but now I am not sure at all

Perhaps Jeremy will be able to shed some light on this one

I think I have seen something on the Hymac Club site about the last 180s and a link with euro company. I can't remember which way around the badge engineering worked :dizzy: The rear boom geo looks similar but front is completely different.

As I understand it for a while under the ownership of Brown Engineering Hymac sold backhoe loaders and certain models of tracked and wheeled excavators built by Italian company FAI under the Hymac name.
The FAI backhoe loaders are quite distinctive and are markedly different to earlier Hymac backhoe loaders and the one shown above:

This is the 180:

FAI were bought by Komatsu and the current Komatsu Utility Equipment lines-Backhoe loaders, mini excavators and skid steers are FAI derived.

Hi Folks,

Well IBH its strange cos I happened to take some shots of the same machine at the weekend, I hadn't realised you had posted these pics.
Can't really say I was a great fan of the old Whitlock Hymac machines so my knowledge of these machines is rather limited, I do know its not any of the old models the 270C, 370C and 570C so it stands a chance of being the later 180 model?

Just read this thread ,very intriguing not like any Whitlock /Hymac
i've ever seen .Its 4wd and the front hubs and other parts are very similar too the Hanomag HD60,main difference is the loader arms.
I wonder if it was one of the prototypes that Hymac built here and then design was sent on to Hanomag to further develop, build and market ?

This my friends is the machine that was to replace the 370C and was to be renamed the 370D of course. This machine is one of the prototypes that were developed and is very very rare. :ugeek:

Whenever IBH owned Hymac they put an intensive development programe together and teamed Hymac up with Hanomag and another french manufacturer that was under the IBH rule (I think it was Pingon - It will come to mind later - bit hungover :dizzy: ) Anyway just prior to launch of the 370D IBH went bankrupt and all the developed machines were scrapped - but because there was so much time and money ploughed into the new backhoe Loader development It was launched instead as the Hanomag HD60. It was a good replacement for the 370C and it addressed a lot of the failings of the old machine except in my opinion if the front loader arm design that are Hanomag derived.

The pictues of the yellow machine further up the thread (for sale in Poland last year) show a machine that incorporates a lot of competitors machine design features at the time - Massey ferguson slew - JCB Cab - Ford Boom etc.

I have an official Hymac 370D scale model that was produced for Hymac in 1:16th scale or bigger so I will try and dig the photos out of that - It's identical to the red coloured machine featured in this thread on the colour scheme is more traditional Hymac.

Whereabouts is this machine located??? :P
