I also found that the female ends seem to wear as well so sometimes a new or adjusted  cable did not last that long.

Probably, but it needs to be the correct length. 92" i believe.

Thinner or fatter - depending on how you measure :D

About two years ago i replaced the speedo cable in my series Landrover with a Brit (shit) part item. Rather than a nice squared off ends to engage the females in the speedo head and gearbox it just had the ends flattened so they would catch two corners of the drive :o

Julian (never knowlingly buys Shitparts Landrover bits ever again)

Hi All,
Read with intrest the posts. I replaced my tacho drive and cable and the tacho worked fine until the engine oil travelled up the cable and into the tacho itself! The tacho wound itself right around to a full rev reading every time i connected the cable. I haven't got round to looking at the tacho to see if any damage has been done :dizzy: Is anyone repairing these tacho's?? I think its sub standard parts, there must be some sort of sealing at the tacho drive end to stop the oil travelling up the cable?

Happy cable and drives

DJ

Took the cable off of mine at the weekend. Broken in the middle, trouble is cant find a replacement, digger parts suggested I try Paul but his phone just rings and goes dead, no reply to email :-((

Speedograph in Nottingham say on their website they will copy any pattern, also if any one needs it they refurbish instruments

Hi Tim
Does your Tacho cable come from the drive on the timing cover behind the fan? If so Paul Martin doesn't have any (i rang him last week)
He only has the shorter ones

You could ask on the Leyland/Nuffield forum?

Ok I have made contact with speedograph in Nottingham the approximate cost will be £30 + vat, before I send the old one as a pattern and place an order is anyone else interested, don't think there will be any saving but will save the agro of having to send another pattern to copy. I am away from home till Tuesday but plan to send off my old cable as a pattern and place an order then. If you are interested pm me a contact number.
