JCB 3D MK3 Found

Post #1 by Mark.Rive » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:36 pm

Found this one today on a tip off from our local dealer. I think it was supplied new by them. Coincidentally my brother in-laws mate was given a back acter about 6 months ago, (so i popped to his place and took a pic of that too!) Looks like its off this machine. The owners wife told me its used every day, but they may want to let it go soon (has been giving trouble). Of course I gave her my name and phone number, i want to fix it up.

The serial number is 12527073

Cheers Mark

The wait is over!

I picked this up today. This is the digger I've always wanted. The engine is seized so it was a real bugger to transport but it was definately worth it. Only came across 3 of these 3D's with the extending dipper in my time. One went for a song at £2500, another is still for sale at £3500 but its so far away it may as well be on the moon, and then there was this one. This was actually about to be cut up for scrap on the day an advert was placed for its 6 in 1 bucket. After phoning the bloke a deal was done and here it is.

By my reckoning it has the longest backhoe of any JCB made at 23ft 6 inches. A brand new 3CX has a reach of 21ft 5 inches.

Im beginning to think the D in 3D stands for drug or disease because i'm well and truly hooked.

Has anyone put an engine into one of these Build 5's and has any advice as to the procedure of doing so? I have to say its a different world to the earlier ones mounted on a skid.
