Manitou "Manihoe"?

Post #1 by Gavin Phillips » Sun Mar 14, 2010 12:16 pm

Always popular around these parts until fairly recently, the Manitou RTFL's were a common sight. But a backhoe based on the telescopic forklift concept? Interesting idea but how do they sell and has anyone seen one?

Best regards

Gavin

I've not seen one myself but Manitou have sold some into the UK market- I recall an article in Earthmovers about an owner-operator who'd bought discussing the pro and con's of such a machine- i'll have to have to dig it out.
The cab and backhoe and possibly some other bits are from New Holland.

Would be a fab machine if the backhoe was 360 degrees

Anything's possible. Both Hydrema and Schaeff (before it was acquired by Terex anyway) have built loader/backhoes with 360 degree capability. Manitou already have telescopic forklifts designed to operate in that fashion - the MRT-series.

I remain somewhat dubious about how well the telescopic design will handle the rigors of heavy digging. :wtf:

There was one in a hydraulic specialists yard last year waiting to be fitted with hammer work! Strange looking aninmal to be honest! I saw it driving round the yard whilst out running and they sound grunty!

Yes you might think they were more suited to re-handling than out and out digging but I suppose that is all some 180s do with front bucket?
