Good selection of Whitlock factory pics here in 'Still Time' archive ( also many other interesting photos if you put something like 'excavator' into search box)

Found this video of a Whitlock 505 in Germany, in bloody good nick by the looks of it and exactly the same as the one I learned to drive on!

Listed as a JCB 3C which i'm certain it's not.
Definitely based on a Fordson Major skid unit. My thoughts from looking at the back hoe were that it looks very similar to an Inchgreen where the dipper joins the main arm. Doesnt look like any other pictures of one I can find though. The front arms are also unusual with the parallel lift arrangement.

It's a shame but the one we discussed in this thread:-

Backhoe identity

Is now up for sale for parts.

Looked in good restorable order as well. Problem is it's probably worth more to most tractor restorers just as a major skid unit. There probably wont be a lot of interest in a fairly rare excavator over the top of it.

The major problem is the digger is in Thurso. Nobody really lives up there let alone anyone interested in classic plant. So selling it to a local isn't going to happen. Its miles away from anyone that is interested in preserving and so the cost of haulage is more than the value of the digger itself. A real shame.

I wonder would the valve block on that machine fit my Hydra Digger with a wee bit of work?

You would not want a steering ram pin to break! Are they Major based?

Great find there Fred, best pics of the DD70 I have seen , I wonder if this was the biggest seller as it is the one pictured the most .
Immortalised also by a Matchbox model .
They are Major based .
