Only recently read that some Leyland group Ergos could be bought with a fixed cab option. Apart from cost there may have been a weight saving.

Hi I have driven a couple of Whitlocks in my time, & know to a preserved one (been in same family since 1968). This is a B reg Whitlock Super Major. Interestingly it has a ram & chain slew system, I see the green cabbed Cheek machine, same year, same model still has a cable slew system - this leads me to wonder if this is an aftermarket one off mod? Did Whitlock ever use ram & chain?
The model i drove was a 308 - it had partial side shift with the post on a swinging beam & the slew linkage patent of V J Holopainien - as also used on digger dumper. I drove a larger D reg machine with a fixed centre post & high level opposed slew rams - a system a bit like used on Lewis hoe attachments. Oddly the fixed post unit seemed less rear heavy & more stable. The last thing you might expect.

Hard to say. I wonder if the Loader has been fitted to an agricultural tractor. Most industrial applications would not have 3 point linkage.

'Dinkum Digger' was the backhoe.
So yes this is a 'Dozaloda' when they fitted twin bucket rams they renamed them 'Power Shovel'.
Looks like it has Whitlock front axle and the grille guard so probably a Whitlock factory machine .
But Majors are so often a mix of parts after so many years it might not be.
Nice machine.

The Whitlock 50R tracked excavator, was from the German manufacturer Fuchs, who are now best known for their blue coloured material handlers and part of Terex (via Schaeff Group) since 2001.
Page 4 of the old CMN thread below has some more info:
whitlock 105

in addition, according to the book Whitlock Brothers by Adrian Corder-Birch, Whitlock entered into the agreement with Johs Fuchs Kg in 1968 and that the 50R was a Fuchs 703R model of 3/4 cubic yard class with 14 ft 7 in dig depth. At this time Whitlock were owned by London and Midland Industrials Limited (aka LMI) who owned Whitlock from November 1967 until the sale to Powell Duffryn (PD) for £1.3m (1972) with PD owning Hymac from 4 April 1972. It seems the sale to LMI was precipitated by the death of Carleton Whitlock and the need for more capital to fund the growth and operation of the business.

I believe marketing/production ceased after Hymac acquired Whitlock.

A short piece about Whitlock and whether or not they or JCB 'invented' the backhoe loader appeared in the Express & Star regional newspaper and is now on their website as well:
