3CX taxation class

Post #1 by AndyK » Mon Sep 11, 2023 9:34 pm

just got the V5 back from DVLA and its come back with the taxation class of digging machine.
unable to tax or sort on line, so went to the PO and they couldn't do it either , I was told to contact DVLA. so after finally getting through on the phone, I was told the taxation class was wrong.
what does it say on your V5 and how much is it to tax it?

The tax class used to be known as ''digging machine'' but is now known as ''Special vehicle'' or class 14 (over 3500kgs)which also covers mobile cranes/pumps,works trucks ,road rollers etc. £165 per year afaik...
Used to be you could have a backhoe in the agri vehicle tax class and it was free like a tractor. An end was put to that and it has to be Special vehicle at the above cost or if you're rarely on the road and not travelling any more than 1.5 kms from home or the same distance between land that you own,you could tax it as a limited use vehicle and it'll also be free bearing in mind you still have to physically ''tax it'' every 6/12mths.

thanks again agrimax for your informative reply, you would have thought DVLA would have sent the new V5 back with the updated tax class.
