I lost drive in my 1988 yesterday.

Turns out the alternator wasn't charging the battery and the battery was too discharged to operate the shuttle.

Just to report back - on my advise the owner lengthened the operating rod and tightened the big nut thing up (it was loose) and she now has forward drive :D - glad we did not have to go in deeper, especially as a pinch nut and spline on the lever system has been crudely welded together in the past

Make sure the owner knows to to use the dump pedal for feathering.

That could be useful for some. I tried to start a Yanmar engined dumper the other day. Spinning over reasonably quickly but not firing and no smoke. Put jump leads on and it started fairly quickly. I think the fuel solenoid drops out with the starter draw with a less than full battery.

…. he referred to it as the clutch, so I guess he does - thanks Pete
