Well I would like to think our old 3C111 powertrain is still running somewhere with extending dipper and a Leyland 4.98 turbo.

Hi Chris....measurement of my...er...dipstick....below to compare to yours... :D :D

Measures 29cm to the tip to bottom of the plastic "handle".

I have a 3CIII Build 3 with 4/98 engine as well.

Interesting, that matches the original one above. So the too long p handled dipstick in my machine is the outlier. I now have even stronger doubts about it being a actual 4/98 and not a 38DT restamped!
I haven't got to the original engine to measure sorry, we've been on roof repairs and drainage on the barn which has meant diverting from sorting space for the trailer contents to live in so mission recover the box trailer from 6ft high nettles hasn't happened, but I'd wager that motor matches the two already pictured.

Thanks CFD thats really useful.

It does however leave me scratching my head. If my dipstick is the correct length (29cm), then why does my oil only just touch the tip of the stick, under the minimum mark?

I have topped up the oil until the level reads halfway between min and max (many times), but after running the engine for as little as one hour the extra oil somehow gets spat out and the oil level returns to just touching the tip. It then remains at that level no matter how much I use it and the oil pressure gauge in the cab remains in the green (just!).

Very strange.
