Great, thanks for the info/part numbers check.

I will see what bits I can get from JCB direct and get it back back together. Will pull the axle centre pin and check those bushings while I am at it....and might as well clean it all down and paint it. Time to get a few litres of Lemon Yellow paint!

Got some work done on the seals today. First up the pot seal. There was plenty of oil on the big bolt/nut, so the nut came off easily. Gave the inside faces of the pot a polish up and pressed in the new seal.

Slight miscalculation on my part regarding the ram seals....the bucket rams (front two and rear one) and the jack legs are smaller diameter rams than the loader /boom /dipper rams....so the seal kit I need is different...think its 991/00012....have to check. So while I will do all the seals, I picked the wrong ram to start off with....so it will have to sit there until I get the kit next week........!

On the mk2 the rams you mentioned were all the same diameter, but the 3c3 has bigger rams as mentioned. If you measure the shaft in imperial, it will make sense as they are the next common size ram up. I used my 3c3 rams when I fitted the mk2 loader arms because of this, and yes I've had people tell me that all the rams are the same on a jcb 3c. Probably it gives more power for the heavier workloads that the machine was being evolved to cope with.
I did wonder if this was also done for of the extra weight of the Drott style clamshell bucket up front and if you have a 3c3 with a normal loader bucket it has the smaller rams, but its just idle curiosity really.

Went to the JCB shop over the weekend....picked up a few items needed for this restoration. Will get the smaller seal kit in the next day or so and continue that work.

Can anyone tell me how the "Cold Start" works on the this model 3cIII? The red Stop pull is broken, so currently the Cold Start knob is doing the "Stop" function on the diesel pump. I will order a new red handle Stop cable and connect it correctly, but where does the Cold Start one connect to?
Thanks.

It would have been connected to a little toggle or button on the bottom of the injector pump. Afaik,it's a manual retard device, rather than giving excess fuel for cold starting.
