Hello , First time poster here , my name is Christof and i'm from Belgium .
We have bought a 1991 JCB 3CX from the council. We bought it with a transmission fault.
They ran it with low oil in the transmission and now it loses drive after a couple of minutes.
They had JCB Benelux out to it to run pressure tests and they said the forward reverse clutch plates are burned.
They decided it wasn't economical to repare and decided to sell it, and so we bought it.
Now my question is wich rebuild kit do i need ? or are they all the same for a 3CX ?
https://www.johnconaty.com/JCB-TRANSMISSION-SHUTTLE-REVERSE-KIT-990-92200-p/2293.htm
Is this the rebuild kit ?
And one of the jack legs leaks badly. Are they the same seal kit as the front bucket ram seals ?
Like this ?
https://www.johnconaty.com/991-00025-p/9068.htm
It is a little confusing because with none of the items it mentions a date of machine.
Or did they use the same reverser unit troughout all the machines with reverser ?
Here are some pictures of it.

I don't know much about that era of machine but I would expect it to have the JCB ITL synchro shuttle transmission. You have the machine number. A proper JCB agent or specialist should be able to point you in the right direction. That must be among the last of the grey cab machines.

Re: 3cx reverser
As Pete says,it should have JCB's own synchro shuttle transmission. The rebuild kit above is for the older Borg Warner transmission in earlier models.
JCB have a relatively good parts list service on jcb.com where you can enter your serial number, although it may only apply to the UK.Not sure on that. The serial numbers can be somewhat confusing though. I have a notion that your machine may actually be a 3DX although it says CX on the side.......Parts are the same anyway.
Can't be sure on the ram seals without the serial number to check........

Re: 3cx reverser
I tried the jcb.com partslist but i only can get an login screen wich needs a dealers-id .
I was searching for the parts for a rebuild online because jcb aren't exactly easy on price around here.
They quoted the council 5000€ to rebuild the clutchpacks.
I'm not afraid to tackle this job myself, i'm a toolmaker in my dayjob and brother works at a planthire company.
I just wanted the parts beforehand so we can put it back together quickly .
How do you see it's a 3DX ? I tought they had a wider bucket and heavier back actor .
At a time this one also had 2 roadbreakers with it ,but they removed them cause they never got used.
It's actually a pretty complete and nice machine. It''s got extending dipper, roadbreaker valve is still there. Only the bushes in the bucket tilt linkage need replacing, all the rest is still tight without play. everything works as it should including electrics , it's just the clutchplates that need replacing and a couple seals on the jacklegs and 4 in1 bucket.

Re: 3cx reverser
May only be us in the UK that can view the JCB parts site without registering etc. JCB parts prices are generally a complete rip off. You could see if there are any ''Interpart'' distributors or try ''TVH'' which is a Belgium company anyway.
I believe a full spec 3DX was just the same as a 3CX Sitemaster but could also be specced with a wider front bucket(but non opening) and a longer backhoe(but then not telescopic)!
It is a very nice example.....

The site you need is parts.jcb.com but it won't let you in unless it thinks you are in the UK. If you can run a VPN and point it to a UK server it'll work fine.
Your stabiliser cylinder look the same as my slightly later P8, which uses 991/20021 seal kit. In Oz, these kits are modestly priced from JCB - larger sizes, not so much!
Be aware the JCB kit contains 'extra' seals you won't use, so layout your components as you disassemble and keep track of which way they face.
Now for the GOCHA - hidden under one of the piston rings is a dowel. If you forget this, it will spoil your day!

Thank you for the tip with the dowel pin.
I emailed vicary plant spares and they helped me real quick with the correct parts .
So i think they will arive in a week or so.
I will keep this updated with pictures when we start with the work
So thank you very much with all your help upto now.

Re: 3cx reverser
Well, i finally made a little progress.
We changed the seals in the jack leg. Tought it was going to be easy since the pin was soaked in hydraulic oil for a long time .
Ended up welding a bracket wich fits a cylinder in to push out the pin in the bottom. After full pressure of 40ton and heating the head, with an almighty bang the pin started to shift. After a morning to just get the bottom pin out, we tought the top pin was going to go out a little easier.
How wrong we taught. Ended up welding a M30 on it (3 times) and pulling on it with a hollow cylinder and simultanious hitting it with a hammer from behind it let go also.
Then it just took 10 minutes to change the seals and half an hour to reassemble.
