Are the older jcb 3cxs built stronger?

Post #1 by Sailor57 » Sat Aug 24, 2019 10:55 am

Hi all, having owned my project 1988 Jcb 3cx for a couple of months now and by necessity (with the help of this forum and esp. Agrimax, thank you) I've been underneath, cleaning, greasing, changing oils, and generally checking things, have noted how seemingly strongly she's built. The hydraulic tanks, complete with coupling pipe and ring nose section plus fuel tank are all welded as part of the hydra chassis. The later project 8 have seperate bolt on tanks and the chassis appears to be not as substantial?

I'm interested in others opinions (based on facts of course) of the merits and strengths of these earlier machines. Plus how does the jcb 3cx compare with the caterpillar 428? I've just seen some pictures of one of similar age as my machine and they look very smart.

Thank you, Garry
