Hi Norm,
Short answer - the slew box was overflowing - only explanation I could come up with was one seal was leaking hydraulic fluid into the box.

As you can see, the contents of the box looked like a mix of mud, rust and grease, so I took the opportunity to clean it out.

A question for anyone with a P8.
I recently burst a steering ram hose, so decided to replace all the hoses in that area.
I've got spec's for all the hoses but one. It's the low pressure return line (3/4", 80 bar) - No. 11 on the drawing, PtNo. 632/30300.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows how long this hose should be (currently in the wrong country to measure my own).

just a follow up - I haven't manage to determine the correct length, so scaling from the drawing above, I took a guess at 800mm.
It's the return line, hence the low 80 bar rating. My hose maker apparently didn't have low pressure hose, so made it with 860 Bar hose instead.
I just hope I can bend the curve into it!

You could have another short section made up with a coupler just in case?

My boom ram has had in internal leak for some time. Despite having the seal kit on hand, I've been happily ignoring it.

Now the rod seal has sprung a leak which it rather forcing the issue.

My question: is it possible to extract the boom ram without disassembling the boom from the king post?

Stretch the boom and dipper out behind and remove the rod pin first.Then pull the rod in before removing the hoses and then the cylinder pin and then lift out the ram.

looking at it (while all assembled), it looks like the boom would have to be at 90° or it'd end up going through the back window.

Done mine recently, the only awkward part was the refusal of the king post pin to co-operate. otherwise pretty straight forward. Set the boom horizontal (rested mine on a wooden prop) and as said remove rod pin first, retract rod then hoses etc. There are some pics on my posts, title is stuck pin. Keep us informed.

Hi All, it took a while, mostly due to the rod being bent making it damn near impossible to undo the gland nut.
After severely bending my stilsons in a failed attempt, I drew up a ring spanner and sent it to a laser cutter (ordered a spare to be sure).

Once the rod had been straightened, the cylinder went together fine




Getting the cylinder eye pined in place took some ingenuity!

The machine is back together and working well.
