i guess you are right

i will have to drain the hydraulic tank into a bucket and pump the fluid from there into a barrel
then i can undo the leacking hose and let someone manufacture the replacement.
and i can clean or replace the strainer inside the tank.

so when i refill the hydraulics - is there a special trick to it or just try to fill it up
and then try all the controls until the air has bled out of the system and fill to the top mark -
in the sighttube - right?

Markus I am not sure if this is a self bleeding system or not as I have never worked on one, I would advise that you would probably be better off putting new oil back into the machine, but see what the oil that comes out looks like first.
If you don't want to drain the oil get a hydraulic hose maker out on site if they are half decent they will know what thread you have and will probably have a bung to put in the place where the hose is fastened to, this would save the need to drain the oil.

Hi,
It would be good to drain your machine if only to clean the suction strainer, (filter).
It will self bleed, just operate it at tick-over till it clears the air then check the level with as many rams closed as possible.

hello there

so my progress is:

fixed the wiring loom (30 some years of preowners chaos) with some new relais cables and switches
fixed the window wiper motors, fixed the interios light which was rusted inside...
so i got now inicators a horn frontlight brakelight and led workin light
serviced the dry brakes (early mk5) because the hydraulic seals where far gone (got it fixed)
made one of the brake pulling thingys myself cause one was rusted badly and was unadjustable...
drained the hyrlic oil and changed the main hydrauic and suction filter
changed the engine oil and ckeaned the airfilter
now i have to do some hydraulic hoses and one cylinder on the backhoe then i
can refill the oil which looks good and adjust the brakes - ready to dig again soon!

hello classic freaks

is there any good advise to mounting new hydraulic hoses?
and whats the best way to refill the totally drained hydraulic oil?
fill it half and then let the engine rev or fill it up let it rev
push every lever and wait 4 the air to come out and then refill the missing oil?

progress

hydraulics is filled
the last 20 liters take as long as the first 100
slewing actuator had a mixture of water, oil and myterios dirt inside - and only one liter
as i've read - noone cares about this thing until there is something seriously wrong with it....
i gave it some 3,5 liters of transmission oil after flushing it.
so saturday i have to rebulid a leaking zylinder on the backhoe and then he (herbert) is ready to go
btw: has anyone got the hydraulic /5 build dry brakes to work perfect in sync or is it better
to drive the pedals open to do the right pressure to each pedal while braking as needed?

yours

markus
