3cx grey cab spool valve help required

Can anyone help identify the issue with my hydraulics please?
I have a 91 3cx non turbo. The machine tends to stand for a couple of months in between jobs. The front bucket lowers itself fairly quickly on letting go of the control lever. I have to give it a couple of sharp pulls back over to get it to stop. Being aggressive on releasing the lever seems to help. I can hear the valve block hissing (poor description I know!) when this happens. Any ideas chaps? If so, could I diy repair myself?
Thanks in advance.
Tony

Seals on the valve block ? Change over the hoses to another lever, and see if the problem moves with it, or stays on that cylinder.

Not sure about diy refurb on a valve block to be honest.

Once you give the lever a good yank does the loader stop dropping?

Ooo ...er
Well I wonder if you have a sticking linkage due to corrosion or crap build up. It can't really be the spool, more that it is not returning to neutral. I suppose it might be a weak spring?

Yes, it does feel like a weak spring but without me looking at it, I can't tell for sure. Is there an external spring direct to the linkage? Or is it in / on the spool valve?
This only manifested itself on my last day in France so didn't have time to delve into it. My next visit is in 5 weeks. Will I be able to access the linkage / spring through the access cover on the plastic cover in the cab? or will I need to get underneath (and get dirty!)
Thanks in advance
Tony

I would guess that the spools rely entirely on their own internal spring to return to neutral. The levers on a 3CX are quite long and heavy so if some thing is sticking it might be a problem.

Chaps, I'm back in France with my 3cx. Cleaned all of the crap off and around the valve block. The origional problem seems to be much worse now. The front loader barely lifts despite pulling the control lever fully back. Also there is oil coming out under pressure (from a relief valve on the valve block ? I don't really know) when I pull the lever back. I am totally out of my depth here! The local agricultural engineer wants a blank cheque!!! So that is a non starter.... Can anyone advise on who in the UK I can take the valve block to so as to have it checked and / or repaired? Preferably in Yorkshire. All help much appreciated.
Cheers
Tony
