3CX Grey CAB Slew Cylinder Bolt Size

Hi

I need to remove the 4 big bolts that hold on the Slew Cylinders to the kingost carriage on my 1988 Grey Cab, as i need to replace the oil seals.

Does anyone know the size of the socket/wrench required for these bolts?

I dont have a socket big enough and will need to get one that size

Hi

I completed replacing the slew cylinder seals and here is some info for anyone that wants to carry out this job

Note: First move the machine into a open location where you have good clear access to the machine. This will be important when refitting the cylinder.

I drained the slew gearbox oil and discarded as it was a mix of hydraulic oil and gear oil !!

So you need a 38mm socket to remove the 4 large screws holding the slew cylinder onto the slew gearbox housing. I had to use a pipe onto a heavy duty bar to open them, they were tight!!

slacken off each of the 4 bolts but don't remove them completely yet. Then using hydraulics, you can break the seal easily. Disconnect the hydraulic hose once the cylinder has moved away from the slew housing. Then pull the cylinder away from the housing and remove completely. There will be hydraulic oil in the cylinder and I emptied this back into the hydraulic tank as it was clean.

Now you can replace the seals which is easy.

Put a bead of JCB Multi gasket onto the face of the cylinder housing before refitting

Putting the cylinder back on is not easy and you wont do it by hand as new seals are very tight. What i did was i used my Twaites dumper to gently push the cylinder back into place. So you will need something to put force onto the cylinder to push it back into place.

Once cylinder is back into position, refit the 4 large bolts and finally refit the hydraulic hose.

Check your hydraulic oil level

I finally refilled the slew gearbox with JCB Gear Oil

Now my slewing is an oil free exercise :)

and don't forget to refill the slew gear box with EP 90 gear oil

Well done on getting the job done .
Where was the oil coming out when the cylinder leaked , does it just go into the slew rack and then out the fill hole ?

I have a lot of play in my slew and I was thinking of taking the bottom plate off and having a look at the rack etc . Is it possible to see anything meaningful if you take the bottom plate off ?.

sorry for late reply, The hydraulic oil was coming out at the first joint in the king post. I think u wont see a lot when u remove the bottom plate. There is a large dowel fitted to the bottom plate that engages with the base of the king post and that is about all u will see from my recollection. to cure the play in the slew, only way is to rebuild the king post.
