3434 backhoe hydraulic issue

Post #1 by larstore » Mon May 16, 2016 9:10 pm

I have an old IH 3434 industrial loader fitted with a backhoe/digger from a company called wain roy. The model is called "b-1". I have a hard time locating any information on this, so i was hoping someone here could help me.

I have a hydraulic leak somewhere inside the boom. All the hoses (4) coming from the tractor goes into the boom and connect to piping inside it. The problem is that the connection between the hoses and the piping inside the boom (where i suspect the leak is) are not accessible. I really cannot understand how to access and change them.

Any ideas are very much appreciated

Hi Lars and welcome I understand your problem with access to the backhoe its a very odd design; you may just get some info from International who marketed these machines. You may have to remove the dipper to access the leaking hoses; if you have any photos please share them with us.

Thank you Jeremy!

Here you can see the hoses entering the boom. 4 in total. (

They come out like this. The two pipes coming out is to the bucket cylinder. The dipperstick uses two cylinders and they are connected on the sides, using the two "T" connections inside

Finally, the outside connections

Hi
You need to take the hose fittings at the bottom of the boom off the valve
then take off the hoses at the top of the boom
then you need to remove the fittings that go into the top of boom where you just took off the hoses
there are 2 allen key bolts at the bottom of the boom slacken the nuts and remove allen key bollts .
there is 1 bolts inside the boom that holds the pipes together remove this bolt and the pipes should slide out .
You will probably find rust has made a hole in the pipe where dirt has accumulated over the years
Braze the holes then reassemble in reverse order
It would pay to check 4 hoses at bottom of boom for there condition while it is apart

Thanks! I have removed most of what you say and the pipes seems loose inside the boom, but i am not sure how to get the bottom hoses off (the connections are so close that any tool large enough does not fit around it) even if i did im not sure how to slide the pipes out. Do i need to remove the dipperstick entirely to get it out?

hello again
remove them off the pipes that come out of the control valve side .
then remove hoses with the pipes when they come out of the boom
let me know how you go

hi lars
i cant remember if the dipper has to be stretched out or removed ,you will have to figure that out as you pull the pipes through the boom they will come out as a set .quite clever at the time very well protected from damage only problem is 30 odd years later the dirt and moisture down the boom slowly corrode pipes
