Re: Barn find JCB3
Strewth, that's a modern machine. The first 3 that I had didn't have a door (you climbed in through the back) and it was Super Major based.
Enough rams on that thing to make quite a few log splitters.

Re: Barn find JCB3
I'd rather have had this one that sold last week.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jcb-fordson-3-/221800158896?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=8Zfg2FEeLcm9hdfg3o4jbLG1H7c%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
Had a bid early on then missed the finish of the auction
Went very cheap and looked to be reasonable condition for a restoration project or use as is after maintenance.

Re: Barn find JCB3
Stormin. I'm not convinced that machine is a 3. It has a 3C cab on it and I think the front bucket is a 3C bucket. It looks too big for a 3 bucket. The loader arms are longer than a 3 and they aren't cranked so sharply. The legs are 3C as well. Obviously the boom is a 3 but I'm not sure about the rest of it. I think it might be a bitsa.
This is the 3 of that era.

Re: Barn find JCB3
Its a definitely a 3C. It would be one typical of 1963 but a few were made with no side door in 1964. The boom is a 3C boom as well. The "C" tin plate almost always fell off in these machines. The boom is too long and heavy for the JCB 3 which shared its boom with the 2 and 2B.

Re: Barn find JCB3
Its a 1965 3....
The boom was shared by the 3/3c, it was the dipper that was different on both, although for some reason the exported mk13c had the shorter jcb3 dipper fitted.

Re: Barn find JCB3
Very interesting Martyn. My 3 was a 1963 so didn't have a door. But that machine is definitely like mine with regard to loader arms, legs, etc. What skid unit would have been under that one ? By 1965 Ford had gone to their 1000 range of ag. tractors. They had introduced them at Smithfield in 1964.

Re: Barn find JCB3
I was referring to this digger in Stormin's post which is in fact a 3C. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jcb-fordson-3-/221800158896?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEDWX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=8Zfg2FEeLcm9hdfg3o4jbLG1H7c%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Re: Barn find JCB3
These later 3 Mk1's would have only been sold with the Nuffield 3 cylinder engine but the digger in this picture has the Fordson engine and 6 stud rear axle it would have almost certainly have been a JCB pre production prototype.
