JCB 3CX-4

Post #1 by Holger » Wed Apr 23, 2014 10:47 am

A friend in Sweden has a JCB 3CX-4.
He is looking for information on the oil for the converter, how much oil should there be filled in?
What oil should be used?
Where is the oil stick located?

Anybody?

Only ever used ATF Dextron II in mine.(not 4x4) Hasn't give bother in 19 years of owning it! Might depend on the age of his but I think it will need 11 litres from empty. Dipstick tube is also the filler and should be located to the front/right of the battery. Dip oil with the engine idling.

This subject comes up quite regularly on here. It would seem that the early Borg Warner models require a 10w oil or a SUTTO and the later ITL/JCB transmissions require an ATF type oil.

Essexpete, thats intersting about the 10w oil, i have recently got an August 1986 D reg black cab 2wd with the foward / reverse lever thats comes out of the side of the dash consul (vertical lever as opposed to the forward reverse thats on the steering column on later machines) without crawling underneith and looking for id is this the borg warner type, i want to give mine a service in the next few weeks and was not sure with the transmission oil.

If it's got a cable operated F/R selector it's a borg warner the later transmission is electric selection
