Just replacing the fuel filter. Pretty simple, if a bit messy. Took the top off the fuel pump, and found there was no plastic gauze filter.

Im just attempting to get a look at the fuel pump filter now. I have the 15/16 plug off, and am about to remove the spring.

Just a question, the plastic fuel pipes from the pump/filter are pretty poor, and so are the compression glands and olives. Are these available, and what size are they ?

edit: 1/2 inch UNF, for the glands, and I will get my digital callipers out for the pipe.. 8mm looks to be the one.

No sign of a filter under the 15/16 nut..!! just a spring and a plug, that fits inside the spring. All back together now, and its running ok. Need to look at replacing those pipes though.

After the inlet plug was removed, I couldnt see a filter that was easily removable. Could have been one right down deep, but nothing seemed obvious. I didnt want to dig about, without having a replacement spare.

The parts removed whilst I was looking about inside.

Its not easily removed but I think the rim of it can be seen on your picture. Remember, the filter is hollow and cylindrical.

Will, I did feel there was something in there, but didnt want to really go for removing it, without a spare one to replace it. Tried a bit of mig wire but it was stuck fast. Is there a part number for the filter, of a link to buy one online ?

If you do get it out,it is washable. However, try and only remove the filter as sometimes the valve body will come out too. It normally means you have to go fishing in the hole for the piston that will fall out of the body!

Looking at the picture again, I think what you see is the rim where the filter sits, Will. The new filter has arrived, and Imj ordering some new fuel pipes and 1/2 UNF plugs and pipes soon. Looks like the spanners are coming out again.

I've noticed that the radiator is losing water overnight, but the engine oil isnt contaminated at all. There is white smoke on startup, which is leading me to think its the liners.

How easy is it to replace the liners, and what needs removing ? One thing that confuses me on reading some of the threads on replacing liners is the spacers. How do you know what spacers are needed ? I take it the sump has to come off and the big ends removed to get the pistons out ? Do you need to fit new piston rings as well ? Do you need a set of piston ring compressors ?

Im pretty confident with engines, and have a garage full of tools, but liners I've never done..!
