OK So i have ordered the starter today so would be good to get it this week for the long weekend.
I was advised its actually the same P/N as the one you purchased Gecko.
Is there anything i need to look out for or do when removing and installing the starter??
Thanks

Re: 1983 3cx starter motor
It's fairly straight forward - access is the only real difficulty.
Start with the battery lead! Then the wires on the starter.
The large body of the Lucas makes it hard to use a socket, so you are restricted to small angles of movement with a spanner. Start with the bottom bolt and work up.
Fitting the new starter is a lot easer as the slim body allows you to use a socket, so with a decent extension, your movement is out in the open.
Often neglected is the earth cable from the starter - make sure this is in good condition and replace if necessary.

Re: 1983 3cx starter motor
Just a quick update..
WOW, what a difference a new starter motor makes. Instant turn over, love it.
You were right about removal, i had to grind an old spanner down to make fit, but manage to remove after a while. The new one as you said was nice and easy to put on.
Again thanks for all the invaluable info......

Once fitted/used you would never go back to conventional starter, especially the cheap copies. The old excavators and telehandlers have to churn over quite a lot when starting.

So true.
More or less what I was trying to say above, but without sounding like a religious zealot!
It's just a better way to start your engine.
Glad to hear it went together well and seems to have solved your starting problems.
