3c 2 back acter seal replacement

Post #1 by spud22 » Mon Dec 17, 2012 9:30 pm

Hi, I've had a trawl through but can't find an idiots guide to replace the seals on a 3c 2 back actor. I can see 2 rams, it's one furthest from the bucket is leaking and I need to sort it. Is there a certain way I have to set the machine up first before I start to knock off the cap? Any advice most welcome. I reckon I can get seal kits from JCB!

Rgds, Spud

JCB used to supply a split gland and wiper seal so the you could cheat and not have to pull out the piston.

All the rams on a 3C 11 need a "C" spanner to undo the end cap they come in a couple of size's as pete says the gland and wiper seals were split to save you from striping the ram down just make sure there is no damage to the rod before you reseal it.

I know this is not the proper way but if there is a light score or pit that has a raised edge then you can carefully buff it down with an oil stone. If It is really bad obviously it will leak. It can be surprising how long it might last, particularly if not in heavy use.
