Interesting read there, thanks for posting the link. That "Instant Reverse" seemed to be ahead of its time? With a 3C or similar you would be stopping, disengaging clutch, then selecting forward/reverse several times when loading. AFAIK with the MF you had 2 pedals, 1 forward, 1 reverse, so just moved your foot depending on direction required???

We had a pair of M-Fs in the early 80's, one with a standard clutch, and one with the Instant Reverse with torque convertor. As you can imagine they were as different as night and day on loading duties.

The setup had three small pedals operated by one foot; forward, reverse, and the centre one was just throttle when you wanted some extra revs while stationary.

I remember taking a rebuilt rock crusher jaw plate back to a local customer in the torque equiped machine (a fair weight to carry in the front bucket!) and the machine getting slower and slower on the road to the point of almost stopping with the engine really labouring against the torque. Then there was a strong smell of very hot machinery in the cab! :insomnia:

Turned out the nearside brakes had seized on!! :doh:
