Hi Martyn,

In the early 70's there was a contractor up here had a JCB with the four equal wheeled setup. It was quite a machine - I remember it because the operator damaged a main power cable and tripped the circuit then drove to another part of the site and denied all knowledge of the damage! His trousers gave him away!! That and the marks on the bucket!

There was also a (now very rare and expensive!) Ford-based Northrop 4 x 4 with equal sized wheels fitted with a JCB 3/4 type front loader and a Boughton winch owned by a local hardwood timber contractor.

Dave.

''JCB launches ‘LIFTALL’ - robust and heavy duty Crane

The latest entrant in the JCB range of world-class machines - LIFTALL has a robust structure, excellent maneuverability and outstanding engine performance. The machine also promises comfortable and safe operator environment. The maximum height of the JCB LIFTALL crane is 12500mm (underhook) and maximum horizontal reach is 10200mm. JCB has proved it yet again that the leader offers a wide choice of machines, which are high in performance, reliability and safety.''

Looks like something from the past ;) (bit of recycling of ideas with abit of updating )

Early issue of CP&M I think, possibly ex US Military just with amounting system thats like a failed teleporter attachment for a tractor that was in T&M mag or classic tractors in about 2004.

From Vertikal net;-The JCB crane-January 21, 2009
JCB has launched a new pick and carry mobile tractor type crane in India dubbed the Liftall. The heavy duty, robust machine will be built by JCB India and initially marketed in South Central & South India.
The new crane, which follows a classic tractor crane concept popular in both India and Australia, features a heavy duty three section boom which provides a maximum under hook height of 12.5 metres and a clear horizontal outreach of 10.2 metres.

Is tractor unit 3cx ? 2cx?

It looks very much like one of JCB's Indian built backhoe loaders with the front axle removed and the crane unit attached, which itself appears to comprise a Loadall boom.
JCB's Indian backhoe loaders are quite different to the UK and US built models, the three models offered by JCB India-3DX, 3DX Super and 4DX appear to be based on the first generation of yellow cabbed BHL's introduced in 1991 (Project 21???).
High res photo of a 3DX here:
