Hi all,

Lots of the non original hoses are completely wrong, the ones identified in the list are genuine JCB but a wee bit younger. Some hoses have no identification, so I don't know when they were made, but I do know that they're genuine. Looks a bit like there are lots of stock parts here but I might be wrong. I also read somewhere that JCB castings are dated too but I can't tell at the moment. I have found this though:
Slewing actor 13A6
Front LH hub SB 27-12 SAS76
There are other things on the other front hub and ram caps but I can't think that they're casting codes.
Here's the strange I with an R superimposed:
Image
Our buckets: I think it's an 18" 4 1/2 cu ft bucket, a non JCB 12" 3 cu ft bucket, and a 60" back-filling blade that could be JCB but not the one I've seen advertised. The shovel is 80" wide and I think it's the 1 1/4 cu yd type, and it's had a handy shackle welded on.

As you can see the switches are a bit of a mess, but we'll hopefully sort that soon, and get the hazard unit too.
Image
We also need to sort the stop and cold start retard cables. We also need to get the steering wheel and cold start plunger covers.
Image
The seat is off a Land-Rover Defender, and I wish it hadn't been as it's very uncomfortable when swivelling.
Image
Here you can see the mess with the hoses here. This is definitely worth sorting soon.
Image
Image
Image
We also need to fix the clutch and brakes, the clutch has excessive free play and the pedal cross shaft bracket is bent to make it even worse. The brakes jam on, so they'll need a good check, but at least we're not with poor braking.
For more details about the skid unit see this: https://nuffieldtractor.com/viewtopic.php?t=5126

I don't know much about Mr. MacGregor's story,
We got him near Roy Bridge, and this is what he looked like then
Image
Image
Image
Soon he moved to a nearby friend of my uncle (who lives nearby) and his workshop, again this is before anything was done (note the new soup can)
Image
Image

Image
As you can see, the cab had plenty of the well known corrosion. Although supposedly fixed slightly after this our not having him under cover has put us back into a similar situation, but now I'm determined to get him under cover before fixing it so that the problems can be away for longer.
Unfortunately there's a load of pics from fixing him that are lost, I'm hopeful we'll recover them but it could take quite a long time as they've been lost for over 10 years!
This pic is at home, he sat for about four years as he had a leaking hose and we never seemed to find the time to replace it, but this had been done by this time. We'll need to get proper front tyres the sooner the better.
Image
Also around the same time the rear bucket came off so we could fix the hole in the dipper, a still pending job.
Image
Here clearing some blackthorn.
Image
And just about to pull down a stuck tree, lucky to have had a cab for that!
Image
Here we still have a problem as the o-rings seem to leak permanently, we fixed the slewing spool ages ago but the boom one is pouring out fluid. most other spools are too, but the plate above the o-ring seems unwilling to come out. The wiper seals are not good either.
Image
Image
Image
He's very often not had a battery in or a very poor one, needing Billy to start him up.
This one is the first run since the hoses were changed, later in the year another one burst and that got replaced too; none of the hoses that came off were original.
Image
And these are more recent
Image
Image
Quite a tight squeeze between Mr. MacGregor and Kenny for Billy to get in to. The barn is too, so we're used to that.
Image
And running. The exhaust pipe was being painted at this point.
Image
Hope you enjoy this.

I have to say I agree in many ways having seen the many JCBs in much worse state (condition or modification), but I'm keen to fix some of these things as it might then improve Mr. MacGregor's condition for longer. Until we get him under cover though we can't really expect anything to last particularly long, as although it's pretty dry here, damp nights are not uncommon and none of these machines like that much.

Getting machines under cover if you are lucky enough to have that luxury is a 'must' it does make a big difference.

We know all about that with the tractors, unfortunately the barn isn't big enough for all of our machines, but we're hoping to fix some other buildings to get them all under cover. Once that's done the cleaning starts and never finishes.
