Was lucky enough to be asked to Drax power station last week to do a feature for Earthmovers about Chepstow Plant's four new 657G coal scrapers.
Until you get close to them you don't realise just how big they are!
Anyway here's a link to a bit of video I took on the day. Enjoy!

I imagine there is 3 or 4 million cube of coal at Drax to kep 4 657's going all the time?

only 80,000 ton????that can't be right, those scrapers would eat that in a week. There must be more coal there somewhere for them to munch through surely.

Re: Caterpillar 657G Coal Scrapers
No worries Nicky!
9-10 million tonnes per year most comes off the train straight into the bunkers. Any warm spell they dont use as much and the spare goes to the pile where its moved around and compacted by the scrapers. Trains only run for 5.5days so either the bucket wheel reclaimers take up the slack on the weekends or the scrapers then ferry from the pile to a hopper
