Cat 435G Scraper Box

Post #1 by Nick Drew » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:30 pm

Hi all,

As I mentioned in the dozer thread I found this old scraper box lying on a site in Okehampton today, I believe Ross Cambell used to pull this box with his Cat D8H which is currently undergoing a refurbishment at his yard.

Sure would be nice to see this old box in action !!

Perhaps Roly could tell us the main difference's between the 435 & 436 boxes :?:

Hi Nick, the main difference is box capacity,435 heaped is 17yds 463 is 26yds
and at £1+ per cube thats a lot of extra shillings in a day, i,ve never
owned a 435, even my 22A,s have always pulled a 463, theres a bigger hole
to get the muck in and a bigger hole to empty it out, plus bigger, wider tyres
to hold you up,i personaly think a 435 is well matched to a 200hp D7G, it looks
to be a good straight tidy box.

Thanks Roly,

Knew I could rely on you for the lowdown :D

Yeh I thought with my untrained eye :dizzy: that it seemed to be a straight bit of kit?? not that I know that much about scrapers sadly

Not sure whether any of the west country boys remember but Wakeham Bros at South Brent used to run a D6C & Kom. D65 with scrapers back in the late '60s till mid '70s......can vaguely remember them doing the site clearance for Beadon housing estate in Salcombe back in about '71/'72, but I was knee-high to a grasshopper in them days

That box does look fairly straight.Dont let the rust fool you.Nick,do you have an update on the refit on that D8?I remember you started a thread on it somewhere about 18 months ago.

Hi Nicky,

Im afraid I don't know how things are progressing with Ross Cambells D8 refit? I haven't been up that way for a bit and now that I have moved out of Okehampton I am not so likely to see how things are going :(

I will try to schedule a visit at some point time permitting :dizzy:
