Re: Dust
Reminds me of the two eskimos in the canoo freezing to death. One lit a fire and the boat sank. Just goes to prove you cant have your kiyak and heat it!

Re: Dust
Neil,
Something like turbo pre cleaners, may need to fit extensions to raise them up, but you need to watch distance to exhausts. Wide core radiators are easier to keep clear, removing engine bay doors etc, can help but can also allow extra dust and material in. Keepin them dry helps, keeping breathers clear especially on fuel tanks.

Re: Dust
Look at the filters fitted to refuse compactors they work in dusty conditions
They were made by GKN FARR (if they are still going) they use the exhaust to pull dust out of a pre filter

Re: Dust
The JD elevator scrapers we run at the landfill I manage have problems. ALot of times our bull head operator that usually runs it wone load into the wind. One dry summer the sand was just a powdered layer about 6 inches deep. The Deere also has a pull in fan and pulls air in the nose instead of out. I got tired of every few hours pulling the filters and was at a scrap yard and found an unknown precleaner off some unknown machine. I took the intake cap off the swing out scraper door. I had a hard rubber hose that fit both diamters. It worked great for 2 dry summers. It cut filter blow outs and changes 50 percent. It worked great for us. My old D5B was down for service and we had a D5K rented from Cat. Other than being a gutless turd, the Air filter they sent stunk. Every 45 minutes i was at the service truck blowing out a filter. Cat doesnt fit them with a precleaner. just a filter that looks like a corrugated panel in wraps. I wrapped the filter and filter inlets with a set of nylon stockings and it cut the stoppages by a lot.

Re: Dust
Nope she wasnt around, But the girl at the counter of the deptartment store sure looked at me like an odd ball. I guess when a 6 foot tall scruffy driver comes in and asks the location of the stockings and what color I wanted lol. The biggest shocked look was when I said their for work.
The good thing was it worked better lol.
