Chris thats an interesting compactor, it looks to be based on a modified Euclid dump truck. Do you know anything about it and is that a normal tyre inside a steel ring.

Great pictures, Chris.
I too was going to ask about that compactor, but young chaz beat me to it.

There have been quite a few of these operating in NZ over the years, but most have been replaced by Cat 8 series machines, Rex Pactors or similar. Yes, it is a Euclid with the Padfoot sections over the tyre. I'm fairly certain this machine is still operating.

Hi Chris.
Great pics, who owned the scrapers and what job was it on ? I can see the orange one is one of Downers, but whose are the yellow ones.
Alot of people converted those old 2 axle tractor units like euclid SS12s and Cat DW20s into compactors. There is a 1693 powered DW20 compactor in south auckland; ex stevensons; runs beautifully, belongs to bloke twomey.

Hi Merv,

I have seen that DW20 out near the Auckland Airport. That has been a great spot for earthmoving gear over the past few years.

The yellow Terex machines are John McJorrow's. The green ones with no signwriting were an owner/driver from Martinborough, the very old orange Terex was a contractor from the Hawkes Bay and McGlinchey Earthmoving ran the others.

Hi Folks,

The compactor is indeed a Euclid 16TDT.
It was converted back in the mid 1970's .
GM 6-71 powered
That machine is over 50 years old (imported 1955) and still going strong

Keep those photos coming Pronto, they're great.
I'll be posting some of my old employers stuff soon as I dig them out & scan them

Hi everyone, sadly they are not too recent - most approximately 10 years old. John McJorrow, the contractor with the yellow TS14b's is still active in the area, however lots of the large scale earhworks in this region are done by Goodmans (Wabco scrapers and Moxy Trucks) and Drapers Earthmoving (Cat 627's). Will post those images soon.
