The last 657B series Scraper in the U.K.

Post #1 by tctractors » Wed Mar 12, 2014 8:56 pm

The last 657B scraper has just landed in the S.E.Davis collection, after its work at a power station moving coal came to an end, Ex Neil Becher unit, it would seem Neil had 7 of them with 3 over in Africa, 2 have been stripped for parts (scrap) 1 being sold off for a project never to run as a 657 again, and this 1 in working order.

Nice to hear that it has been saved TC  just hope that S.E. Davis start to use it on demonstration days and not let it rot outside like much of their collection :(

I think you might have been looking at this chariot, its Ex Neil Becher No49, it was working in a power station on Coal movement, the P/Station is now running Bio-Mass so no need for the scraper, The Biggest scraper in the U.K. is Karl Bostons 666 outfits.

Here are a few pics of the said beast at S.E. Davis it was great to see this machine brought into the arena at the 23rd North Worcestershire Vintage Tractor & Engine Clubs annual gathering, a big thank you to Paul Davis for bringing the scraper into the ring. :claphands:

Jeremy,i worked alongside these monsters with merriman's about '89 and Bechers '91 to '94.They are animals to say the least. At East Chevington(or West, can't remember) they were outclassing Budge's Cat 777's on production. At Crouch's Rough Hill site they were quiet at home munching their way through rock at times!

The North Worcs Vintage Tractor club have their annual meet at S.E. Davis every year so that is the best time to see the collection; you are free to take a wonder round and have a look.
