hello martyn.
no near misses on this occasion as we had the boys in blue with us and i must say in all fairness ian brooks from road pilots ab load escort provider was spot on.that particular move with the 777f was from finnings llantrisant to east pit not an easy run at all was subject to a visit from bob beech and alistair cusick from the magazine trucking which was covered in august2009 issue.the 637e scraper i was loaded with was the last of the fleet that walters once run, not as popular as they once were probably the cost of diesel and repairs has put the kiss of death on this type of earthmover.
regards graham.

Some more of Grahams photos.
Look at the petrol prices.I have always been interested in lowloader loads being from a mining town. But in the 1960's a lot of heavy equipment was "roaded" even saw a 951 A tracked from Llanwonno to a quarry in Mountain Ash once. And saw three Cat scrapers on the Cardiff road at Mountain Ash :dizzy:

The road looks pretty quiet  .I escorted a 50 tonne shunting loco on Heanor transport from Margam to Tremorfa a few years ago.It took five hours as the loader kept blowing tyres and brake hoses.
It also dug in the tarmac at Pyle rounderbout sliproad :dizzy:

Had a chat with Graham on the phone this evening.A question was answered that had baffled me for some time regarding a 22RB on a job at Pontypridd. The dragline bucked was used to knock down the Brown and Lenox building in Pontypridd, the 22RB in these photos.
It seems the owner used the bucket as a wrecking ball.
