Tractor tie down on steel tray truck

Post #1 by JimInOz » Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:58 pm

Hi All,
I'm looking for some advice on tractor tie down.
I'm about to hire an Isuzu tray truck to move two farm tractors & a small crawler.I usually get a guy to move my machines, but cost is an issue here.
Truck is legally able to carry 4.5 tonnes,& has a 21 Ft tray.Rear axle is 7Ft from rear end of tray.Tractors weigh under 3 tonnes & crawler is about 4.3 tonnes.
I'm looking for advice on tie down for these machines.
I've seen them tied down in many ways, but ,as this is my first move,I'm looking for advice.
I was thinking of a chain & dog on each corner, pulled back toward the centre of each machine.
I'll take any advice you want to give.

Thanks
Jim

Jim.
When I used to be involved with Ag wrecking about 5 years ago, they were always chained like you suggest back to the middle, but normally diagonally, so any side ways movement is removed.

Hi Ash,
Thanks for that.I found a transport industry website that advises on tie down methods & the like.Just absorbing some of the ideas listed there.
Good luck with the TD9 .

Jim
