Concrete Skip Perhaps :?:

Yes it has a chute for concrete so I'd agree; nice Hymac 580 in the second photo.

Jeremy

And a fair old load on the Ford!

Hi we used to call these "Agitator Trucks."
They were not mixers , but used to transport concrete from a central mixing plant to where it was needed on the big jobs.
They would keep the concrete workable and prevent segregation by stirring the mix. I found this pic. on the net which shows one discharging,
It shows the mcchanism in the skip too.

Nice pics Steve  the last one the ERF that belonged to Midland Earthmoving; they were based in Dudley not so far from me, they ran an old Mk11 Atkinson Borderer for their low-loader I believe this has since passed into preservation  they also had about three Mk11 Atkinson Searcher (six wheelers) with 'super singles' on the rear axles.
Just realised I have a poor quality photo (not mine) of that old Atki they used to operate.

Hi Steve,
Lloyds of Ludlow had a depot in Merthyr Tydfil just a few miles from Hymac at Rhymney. Their manager at Merthyr was a good friend of mine and they did most of Hymac's deliveries.
They delivered a new 580 C to me in 1977 and if I remember rightly the unit was an AEC.

Hello,

They had the nickname of a "Gravy Boat" and were used to supply the "Concrete Trains" as they were known that formed motorways and airfield runway constructions.

What an amazing black and white of the Phillips (is that the right name). That must have been a headache for someone! Just about every early 60s truck make in the photo and some plant as well. I wonder if the management kept the local sales reps on their toes?
