Embarrassing moment for the Foden driver.
Going back up the page what is the unusual boom arrangement on the big Hitachi with the extra link at the back of the boom?

Pete it's a two piece boom the extra link I'd think is to allow you to adjust the angle of the boom.

Something I'd forgotten about 40's - the big rubber flap that would catch you in the face when you stood on the back to get a better look at what you were doing, and the big noisy springs that helped push the window up.
I wonder how fast you could go before pressure in the cab pushed the windows out.

Trying to place the rubber flap? I think the one I drove on the farm as a student the rear window was nearly always left open.

The rubber flap was attached to the bottom of the rear window frame. With the window closed it sort of filled the gap around the spool block and backactor frame so when the window was open = as in the KM pic - you can see it hanging above the window opening.
I can't ever recall using one with the window closed, even in winter.

Photo number 2 and 3 is of an early Netherland based Scania-Vabis from
circa 1935 and the other truck are from middle of fifties. Scania-Vabis has
always been used for the toughest transports. The cab is not the common
Be-Ge from Sweden. I Guess the truck is an LS71 (bogie) it is Scania had
150 hp. This truck was their largest at this time. Lars-Gunnar
