Noticed a HYMAC 580D in a field yesterday, what's the spec change from the 580B?
Norm.

Hi Norm, the 580B was the upgraded 580 with a stronger undercarriage although it was still a flat navvy pad machine, the 580D was the last model made in the 580 series of machines, surprisingly it was fitted with mechanical linkages for the controls and not pilot controls, it was also the last Hymac model fitted with triple inline hydraulic pumps, although the slew was now accomplished through a hydraulic motor and gearbox as opposed to the Staffa motor fitted on all the earlier 580 range of machines (except the 580CT).

Hymac did set up the manual controls really well. Our old 580D was slow in some movement but it was surprisingly light to drive.

Pete I've never had a go on one to comment but I believe what you say they were a nice machine by all accounts from what I have heard.

A fine flock of Neals Pelicans in that last bunch. Made for unloading coal from rail wagons.
Note one has the Coles badge as they took over Neals Cranes.
