Going back a couple of posts, one wonders if the Derruppe was designed out of the same box of Meccano as the Pingon.
The TM tipper was unusual - Detroit power perhaps? I like the little Maggie, my kind of toy.
Why do so many pictures of the early low loaders look to be loaded way past what they'd get away with now?

There does appear to be some uniqueness with the designs of Pingon and Derruppe, perhaps this was more than coincidence but unless somebody knows for certain its no more than guess work. The older low-loader trailers perhaps looked overloaded because they were not quite as large as whet we have today, specially the ones with the knock out back axle, also no air suspension on them, modern trucks and trailers take things in their stride, whereas back then it was a job and a half!

The third photo down; wonder if that is a pop group posing with the old Atlas duck? The photo of the Hy-mac 580C in the last but one photo was taken at this years Cromford Steam Rally.

This lot though aren't your average road diggers it's U2 - Zoom in on top of the wheel to check out the winklepicker curl.
Wifey has suggested the moody one with the bucket up his chuff is Bono.
Heigton Mc Ferran were a builders merchants in Dublin and there is an up to date pic here... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DMhE0u2XkAE ... name=large
I believe Bob Geldolf was involved digging the M25 near Redhill? Who knows?

I'm a bit of a U2 nut.... so Paul Hewson (aka Bono, singer) in the black with said bucket up his chuff, to his immediate right with the glasses is Adam Clayton (English by birth, grew up in Dublin, bass guitar) , standing on the front of the digger is David Evans (aka The Edge, Welsh by blood and an Essex boy by birth, but grew up in Dublin, lead guitar) and then sitting in the cab is Larry Mullins Jnr (drummer). They actually formed the band while still at school in 1976!
