Might be the wrong topic, but bear with me, I've been coming into the CAT works in Dortmund for a while now and never took a shot of this old girl... until now...

It started life as a O&K plant, then it became Demag(but I might be wrong about that), it then became Terex and it's changed hands again and it's now part of the CAT group.

Cheers, Patrick

Nice pics Patrick love the old O&K digger she's a lovely 'gate guard' they have there; O&K have been around for years since before WW2 it was started by Benno Orenstein and Arthur Koppel the excavator division was just one arm of the business that made railway wagons and escalators among other things, next time your on an old store escalator you may just see the O&K diamond badge on it, I don't know if those divisions of O&K are still going or not?

The excavator side of the business was very successful particularly with large mining shovels I think they still make what is the worlds largest fully hydraulic excavator there that was originally classed as the O&K RH400 if I recall correctly the company was bought out by Terex who were themselves swallowed by Bucyrus Erie who in turn were bought by Caterpillar. Demag on the other hand another large German manufacturer were bought out by Marubeni Komatsu.

The S21(?) actually has different front mouldings from the standard. The grill sticks out, I wonder if that was to accommodate am 8LX or similar?
