Fantastic pictures, Roly please keep them coming
How on earth did they load that D6C and 70 scraper ?
I assume they were going a long distance to warrant all the extra effort on loading rather than making two trips of it (fuel would have been a lot cheaper then !).

Re: LOW LOADERS UK. +
Hi John,we was off to Northampton to dig a lake for Kimble Constrution, they
skimped me on the haulage price so we loaded in one, quite easy reverse
the box on first then drive the tractor up on blocks enough to hook up the
unit
this next load the low-loader driver insisted the tractor go to the front and the
tank at the back, its wonder the fith wheel pin stood it.

Re: LOW LOADERS UK. +
Remember in 70's 80's they used to deliver scraper boxes on the road towed behind normal wagons, but never took a pic
Not all those who wander are lost.
Re: LOW LOADERS UK. +
Tim,D8k weight with blade and ROPS around 35 ton
Craig,on local jobs we still deliver boxes by road towed by tractor, years ago
we towed them all over the country with a home made tug tractor, based on
a Guy tractor unit with a V8 510 perkins engine, built in winch and ballasted
with concrete, taxed as a tractor winching machine and run on cherry
we often had a police escort ,and even once down the M11.

Re: LOW LOADERS UK. +
Hello Roly
In the sixties around our way,a lot of boxes were hauled around using a truck between yards and sites.I wish I had took photos of those days. The biggest firm in our area then were Shorts Bros.Their machines could be found on every site and mine. They used to move 22RB's fully rigged for work.A lot of lamposts use to get hit.
I wonder if anyone has photos of Short Bros lowloaders and machines?
Any more photos Roly? these are great.
Cheers
Martyn

Hi Richard Yes the F88 is still around and can sometimes be seen at steam rallies and transport shows. It usually pulls a stepframe trailer and carries a Scammell or one of two bonnetted Volvo N12's that owner Paul Hammond has restored. The Nicholas trailer pictured went to South West Heavy Haulage a while ago now,but i saw it again behind a Scania of J Ffrench Heavy Haulage in Guildford with a Land and Water Hitachi EX750 long reach on board.
