I always wanted one of those, 4000 series with a big cat lump. You only see the fairground boys with them now!

Steve the two six wheel Dodge tippers in the top photo look like they are brand new; I remember these trucks as a kid they were fitted with either a Perkins V8 or a Cummins V8 engine.

Hi Jeremy,
I had one of these, It had the Perkins V8 and Hendricks back suspension beams.
It had a big body and was often overloaded but it was a better earner than any other truck I ever owned.
It came to me from Salway & Stephens when they went out of bussines. I worked it hard for three years and all I did appart from tyres etc. was a water pump, recon stearing ram and the biggest expense £700 on rear suspension bushes.
I eventualy sold it on for £1,000 more than I paid for it.
I also had a 4 wheel version Dodge K with the Perkins 6-354 which was also a good truck.
Talking of Salway & Stephens, who South Wales members will remember, Gerald stephens worked for me as Transport Mannager for a few years and Stan Salway used to come in and do repairs when we were buissy.
Fred

Yes Fred I remember the smaller version was powered by the Perkins 6,354 engine; I never had any experience of these trucks other than seeing them as a lad.

I remember being all excited as a lad walking past Father's yard home from school to see a brand new tilt cab tuck in the yard in a sort of battleship grey. I was truck anorak but I did not know what this was. It turned out to be the latest swb Dodge on a D plate with (IIRR) a 7 cu yd under floor ram steel dropside body. I soon found out it had a Perkins 6cyl. I think there were some initial issues mainly to do with how the air tanks were mounted. It ran for a few weeks alongside the C reg 300 LAD cab. Whatever the opinion of the tilt cab it was tons better than the LAD (especially for a 6 year old passenger). No photo anywhere.
