It's straighforward. The brake shoe clutch works in a very similar way to a series landrover transmission brake, particularly regarding the shoe expander mechanism. On the clutch on the dumper this is actuated via a fairly powerful spring so try to keep out of the firing line when you release it.
If the clutch is just slipping it probably only needs adjustment. You adjust the shoes up untill the clutch won't release then back off a 1/4 turn or so, in just the same way as you adjust brake shoes on a car.

Re: Thwaites Tusker Digger Wanted
Just done my clutch, so thought Id share some hard learnt wisdom!
If youre taking the clutch out, this might help.
Firstly, rather than remove the back panel, I would strongly advise leaving it in situ - it comes in very handy when removing the spring.
Before that though...
Remove the centre pin from the clutch idler and get it out of the way.
Remove the chain cover - the 4 bolts are easy got at if you give it full lock on the steering.
Then wedge a baulk of timber inside the rear panel. Using a scissor jack off the timber / back panel, compress the large spring. This will enable you to unscrew the shaft that pulls the clutch in. Im sure theres probably a proper tool for removing the spring, but if you dont have one, and dont want to have your hands and face close by as youre undoing that stop, the jack is the way to go.
Once you have that unscrewed, the assembly is free to come out. Use a couple of screwdrivers to ease out the 'back' plate until you can get the wrecking bars behind it. Dont worry about loosing the key - its fixed to the shaft.
Clean up or replace the shoes as needed, then reassemble. It will only fit back in one way, so you cant get it wrong. Use the scissor jack to compress the spring back into position.
Refit the idler for a test run and adjust to suit.Once youre happy with it, put the cover back on and youre done!
In my case the shoes were good and the piston free, but I imagine this is often the problem.
A good clean out made a world of difference though.
Incidentally I have made up my counterweight for the wee digger, but cant figure how to post pics??
Hope this helps someone )

The best way in my opinion is to upload your pics onto your PC then upload them to a hosting site like photobucket. It's easy, just set up an account and follow the on screen prompts.
Next all you need to do is copy the image code from photobucket and paste it here. Simples.....
