JCB 3cx

Post #1 by mechman » Thu Mar 10, 2022 11:17 am

Hi all.
I'm need a work shop manual for the above. It's an 83/84 3cx 2w drive, Perkins engine, semi auto or whatever. Chassis No 3cx/304179/P. Serial No 16062. white cab. I've tried looking on the net but found it a bit of a mine field, I need nudging in the right direction. :dizzy:

Hi all.
I've had a look at the 3cx/4cx download but can't seem to find my model. It's the electrics (or lack of) that I need to sort out. It has 8 fuses on the left side of the dash (all were missing) I've replaced them still nothing. The starting is instant that's the only system that works. I will get it sorted one way or another, I don't pick the machine up until Saturday coming so time to mull it over. :dizzy:

Are they blade or ceramic type fuses?

I think the manual that I linked to you only covers machines with the later blade type fuse box which is on top of the dash to the right of the steering wheel, not the earlier ceramic type fuse box on the right side of the dash cowl

It sounds like you have bought one of the white to black cab transition models as it has the Perkins engine, not the Leyland, so one would have thought it should be closer to the configurations described in that manual. But of course JCB so anything could happen :eh:

I would guess the change at that point was mainly engine. I think the Black cab saw the big change from Borg Warner shuttle to the ITL unit with the electric shift.

Ahh, then the wiring is likely to be very different as that electric shift has a whole load of relays and solenoids associated with it. How tiresome

Hi norm have a look at the screen shot of the fuses section of my workshop manual. Not sure if the wiring in your machine will be the same. If it looks to be the same as your machine I can forward you on a copy if that's any good to you regards Karl

Hi karl.
The fuse box on my 3cx is located on the left side of the dash , it has 8 ceramic fuses in it (Bullet torpedo type) I haven't had chance to check the wiring yet but will do so. Heart rate is back to normal after Saturdays debacle. :)

Norm, those fuses sound like the 'continental type' similar to those fitted to my Poclain; I did fit two new complete fuse boxes to that, I wonder if you have a wire that has come off the ignition switch that should provide power to the fuse box? Do you have a multi-meter, at least if you do you can find out if you have any power to the fuse box? Sadly electronics are not my best skill.

Hi Jeremy.
Someone else said that they changed the fuse box for the blade type, can't remember what machine though. It's an avenue I probably will go down if I find anything sinister lurking behind the dash.
Norm.
