Insley L

Post #1 by librarian62 » Thu Nov 17, 2011 2:54 am

From two brochures: One dated 1950, and the other 1954. Click pic to enlarge.
I still see L's, and the smaller K models around the tri-county area, at farms. One L was parked on farmer's land right by 131 expressway, just south of Reed City when I last saw it a year or so a go.
Note the difference in gas engine options between the two brochures. Minneapolis-Moline 425-6A engine was offered after the 1950 catalog, which had offered a straight-8 Chrysler engine as an option.
Enjoy!
I'll have to finish uploading the 1950 brochure (cover and 2nd page) on a new post. Limit is ten uploads. My bad. ENJOY!

Hi Kevin,
Did you know that Insley were built in UK too? I worked on one about 1962.
They were made here under the Blaw Knox banner.
The British versions were fitted with Perkins P6 engines and the wheel-mounts were on Dennis chasis.
They were marketed as the B-K 50, a half yard machine.
The chasis were produced by Dennis Bros. and I think Dennis is the only British name truck still made.

Good posts .Didn't know them Blaw Knox cranes were Insleys , I've never seen a pic of one except on them Dennis chassis.
Think your right about Dennis being last Brit badge on the road , probably Badge only from uk :)
Shame , just being to Turkey and they had at least four of their own makes of truck . Ottosan , De Soto , Fargo and BMC . All very interesting making their own models and different from the Euroboxes.

Thank you for the Blaw-Knox pics. I've seen some B-K pics on the Album-MMT site, and had heard they had something to do with Insley....like a manufacturing agreement. Thank's for confirming that. I had heard that Dennis trucks were/are a very popular make. Seen some neat pics of some of them also.
I think it's neat that Insley was also involved in overseas ventures as well. Their engineering expertise, quality of manufacture, and loyal following are obvious because a lot of the old machine's still work in the field....even if it is in a farmers field. :P

Hi Craig,
Dont know about Dennis being British badge only. I think their now "Dennis Eagle" specialising in municipal vehicles.

Well Fred at least we have one British name left !
I was working in Guildford in 90s and there was the massive 1930s Dennis factory alongside the A3 . All empty .
I knew they were still on the go in Giuldford so decided to seek them out . They had a small unit on an industrial estate.
Grieves me that UK , one of the richest countries in the world (yes still ) hasn't got a single British volume truck maker.
Still if Triumph motorcycles can be reborn from scratch to be a world player , maybe AEC or Bedford or ERF or Foden or Leyland or ......can rise again :D
Off topic Kevin sorry.
