hello all.
a very interesting photograph of shorts scammell with the navvy loaded,i think that one of the short bros is in the middle of the group and quite possibly the photo was taken in the old weighbridge yard cwmbach,i can remember the scammell well.

I think you may be right Graham,looks like Gabriel Short. I have been trying to find a photo I took in 1971 of Mabberley Parkers RB 22 drag shovel and a Harvey plant D8 being unloaded on a pipe laying job at Perthcelyn Mountain Ash.Its anoying that I can't find those photos as there were some interesting items of plant on that job including a 580 C fitted with a ripper, a Priestman Beaver,a BTD6 dozer and a 4 wheel drive Fordson major with a modified front loader crane frame.

Hi Graham,
Ive looked again at the Shorts Post and I think thats definitely Gabe Short by the back wheel of the unit, and Vernon holding the paper in the centre of the group by the 19. I think your right about the location too.

L.C. Lewis is a hell of a good book. Going off at a slight tangent here. Reading other books, there are countless storries about the Euclid/Terex factory in Scotland delivering R45 and R65 dumptrucks to South Wales by driving them down the what was then the A roads with a Morris Marina as an escort vehicle, those were the days. You couldn't imagine driving a terex TR-60 from Scotland these days.

Suppose in the 50/60s the dumptrucks and scrapers weren't that much slower than the heavy lorrys on the road, so putting them on a low loader wasn't that much of an advantage ( and roading cheaper of course ! )
