Nice one Martyn

Not very often you catch them actually going up they often appear to have grown overnight ;) (or so it seems)

Often see the big cranes in bits in transit on the motorway but getting a photo doesent seem to workout :(

Nice picture Martyn - a case of being in the right place at the right time - how long before the pikeys moan about the noise from the blades :D Ian

These things are sprouting up in pairs in this area, but this looks like it will just be on its own as the crane is being dismantled. Its a massive structure but I feel its a bit too big and spoils the outlook. But we must save the planet :dizzy: Looks like telly tubby land, wonder how long it will take the pikeys to strip it down and take it to Simms metals up the road

Does anyone know why he has luffer on? The 2800 should do that turbine no problem on main boom or with the lf2

possibly because of the working radius? it lookms like it woud possibly need more main boom to reach from where it is sitting than having the luffer? might not be right but just a thought...

and it hasnt got the derrick on, so it might need less ballast to raise the luffer than ot would to lift full main boom?

Possibly, but the tc 2800 can erect 84 m s7 boom and 12 m lf2 fly with 160 te of ballast, you can in fact put up 102 m s7 boom plus 12m lf2 fly on its own but you need 220 te ballast, and the front riggers get very , very light!

Ive been around Demags a bit ..Its likley ,given that windmills go up in windy areas ..the Luffer will offer a couple or few extra Meters per second .
Meaning ..over main boom ..the luffing jib can offer permissable working capacity and load chart in a slighly higher wind than main boom ..
1 or 2m/s can make the difference between getting the job done and calling of a lift..

As a said note ..and this is where it can really matter and nice to have that extra wiggle room(m/s) , Some of these turbines require that the Nacel be placed as soon as possible after the top tube is bolted..or ..the top tube has to come back down as the fully rected tower cant withstand any significant wind without the compression force of the weight of the Nacel.
